We have had quite a mixed summer this year. First it did not rain for many weeks and that while it was warm the result was that naturally the soil became very dry, but just as we were getting worried about this and that the government decided to put a ban on hosepipe use, it started to rain and we have not looked back since. In fact we did get rather more rain than necessary. The nice thing about this is that it felt today as if we are living in the tropics, so humid and warm and the garden so very overgrown, quite splendid.

While having lunch on the patio there is a nice view over the garden and it is good to just sit back and take in what’s growing, and to delight in all the different colours and the wealth of scented herbs. Vegetables are growing, beans are being produced, and we are waiting for the hydrangeas to start flowering. Times are full of expectations, and reflections too.
During the afternoon I found the cool air in the garden conducive to looking over my notes. I’m doing the second part of ‘Fundamentals of Plant biology’ course and am finding it absolutely fascinating, if a little challenging too! Keep the old brain working π
So the solstice came and went and we are enjoying midsummer weather, it is all good, and life is feeling a little more like normal again. At least I hope it is for everyone else too.

I’m glad you got your rain. We have been lacking it for awhile, but it’s been raining on and off all week. Now we are waiting for the Saharan dust to arrive.
I would guess it is more thinned out by the time it crosses the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. I find it fascinating that we can now track its path. Was in Cuba yesterday. The earth is a wondrous place.
Me too, in fact I love tracking many different things come to think of it, it’s great to have the opportunity, and I agree fully that our earth is a wondrous place β€
Awe thank you Jackie that’s real nice of you. And thanks Derrick for telling me, it is always encouraging to hear that people like what I have sent out in my blog posts. I love thunderstorms too, I hope that you got yours π
Thank you Emma, yes I too love the lavender. My plants are now about 6 or 7 years old and partly quite woody but flowering so much. I just adore the colour. I am happy you enjoy them too.
Weβve been in the same situation weather-wise, heading towards drought, then rain, the heatwave. It got really really muggy (sticky) yesterday but we did get a bit of thunder and lightening. A bit of a disappointing show but Iβm loving the cooler, slightly rainy weather today.
Anyway, your garden looks lovely, Agnes. It does look very lush and very pleasant to sit in. The lavender seems to be doing very well and the insects must love it.
Your garden looks lovely, what a nice place to seat and read, drink your favorite cup of tea, or coffee, or just meditate, but I assume it also has to be a lot of love work. π

Gosh that Sahara dust is no joke. We experienced it in Gozo too. I hope you get proper rain soon.

Glad you’re getting some nice, warm weather. Summer solstice days are seemingly endless, but we know they won’t last. Enjoy while we can!

Unfortunately the storm passed us by. More watering required π

Oh dear, and have you also got a hosepipe ban like we have here Derrick, though it is raining as we speak.

No, we don’t have a ban.

Can you imagine Ireland having a ban on water? It is unheard of! This is the land of rain π

Possibly the dry spring helped with the colour. Itβs the same in my garden: a very vibrant violet colour.
